Legacy points explained: how Forever rewards your alts

Classic has always punished alts. Every new character starts from nothing, walks everywhere and pays full price for everything. Forever's answer is Legacy: progress that belongs to your account, not to one character. Blizzard told Game Informer it's meant to encourage alts, "not a rush". The bonuses are small on purpose.

How you earn points

Each account challenge you complete is worth one Legacy point. The challenges cover most of the game:

• levelling characters of each class to 25, 45 and 60;
• raising professions to 150, 225 and 300;
• PvP honor ranks and Exalted with battleground factions;
• clearing dungeons and raids, and exploring the world.

Points are shared across your account, and across rulesets too. The one exception is Hardcore, which sends its progress outward but doesn't draw on it.

Where you spend them

There are three trees, and each character spends its own points. If you change your mind, a class trainer can reset them.

• Professions: better skill-up chances, more materials from gathering, extra fish and extra cooked food.
• Adventure: faster rested experience, cheaper and faster flights, and Talented, which gives you talent points from level 9 instead of 10. You still end at 51 points.
• Resourcefulness: less durability loss, bonus reputation and honor, longer-lasting group buffs and camp rest, and stronger food buffs.

Cosmetic rewards unlock at 15, 25, 40 and 55 total points. The last one is the Reins of the Spectral Bear mount.

Is it worth planning for?

Yes, a little. Many challenges happen naturally: your first character reaching 25, 45 and 60 already earns points. If you plan to play alts, levelling a gathering profession on your main pays back twice, in gold and in Legacy. Just don't expect it to make your second character fast. Blizzard built it to take the edge off, not to skip the journey.
