Blizzard is hiding Forever's loot from data miners

Quick notes

Beta

Podcast: new layering tech lets hundreds fight in one World PvP battle

In episode 1 of the official WoW: Forever Podcast, senior game designer Josh Greenfield and lead classic designer Tim Jones told host Countdown To Classic and guest Xaryu that the beta's new layering keeps hundreds of players together on a single layer with little added lag, which is what makes large open-world PvP fights possible. They said dropped frames are still a problem, but overall server lag is far better than in earlier Blizzard Classic tech.

Beta

Podcast: lower dungeon-mob XP is meant to push you back outside

On the same podcast, the developers said dungeon trash now gives noticeably less experience while quest turn-ins inside dungeons give much more, a deliberate trade so players level in the open world instead of camping a dungeon and grinding mobs. They added that despite tester complaints about pace, their own numbers show overall levelling speed is close to original Classic's.

Beta

Weekly beta build buffs Wrath and Holy Strike, trims Gnome Eureka!

The September 24 beta build raises Druid Wrath's base damage by about 50%, increases Holy Strike's weapon damage at every rank, and makes the first two Lava Burst ranks hit about 10% harder than the Lightning Bolt learned at the same level. Gnome's Eureka! is now a flat 10% discount on Mana, Rage or Energy abilities for every class, Tauren Cultivation now needs a minimum player level for each herb, and Undead Touch of the Grave no longer breaks crowd control. Two talent pairs also swap rows: Elemental Fury with Elemental Alacrity for Shamans, and Bastion with Focused Rage for Protection Warriors.

Add-ons

Blizzard's Cooldown Manager enters beta testing

The same build adds Forever's Cooldown Manager, which lifts key buffs and cooldowns off your bars into a spot you place yourself. It is off by default (Options, Gameplay Enhancement), only Druid, Mage, Priest, Warrior and Warlock can test it so far, and it doesn't handle spell ranks yet. Gamepad players get class flyouts on the action bar for Druid shapeshifts, Hunter and Warlock pets, Paladin auras and Warrior stances.

Beta

Beta respecs drop to 1 silver, memory leak and mail fixed

For the beta only, resetting talents now costs 1 silver if you haven't changed them recently; a second reset right away costs much more, but the price falls back to 1 silver after an hour. The build also fixes a memory leak that slowly dragged down performance, and mail that ignored surnames and went to the wrong character.

Beta

Forced renames and beta removals over character names

Blizzard says the development team has personally reviewed and renamed beta characters that break the naming policy, and removed beta access for the worst offenders. Customer Service will not take appeals. An automated name check is coming very soon, and Blizzard asks testers not to try to get around it.

News

Collector's Edition restocked, but it ships in February

More English copies of the Forever Collector's Edition went on sale in North America, the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Orders from this restock are expected to arrive in February 2027, well after the November 4 launch. The Blizzard Gear Store limits it to one copy per household.

News

Heavier rain and fog are coming to the beta

Blizzard posted a video of Elwynn Forest under heavy rain, thick fog and loud rainfall to show off stronger weather effects. They are coming to the beta soon, but there is no date yet, and Blizzard hasn't said which other zones get them.

Beta

Faster Auto Shot and wands were a bug

Blizzard confirmed that the short pause before a Hunter's Auto Shot or a wand shot is shorter than the intended 0.5 seconds because of a bug. That means ranged attackers can move more than they should. A fix is planned for an upcoming beta build, hopefully next week.

News

Wailing Caverns set bonus turns you into a snake

Wowhead reports that the Wailing Caverns gear set carries a hidden bonus that transforms its wearer into a snake. Testers on the official forums have praised the set as the kind of flavour they hope to see more of at level 60.

Beta

Beta build 1.60.1.69977 fixes Mac and gamepad issues

A new beta client (1.60.1, build 69977) fixes Mac display and stability problems, improves controller navigation on character select, and lets gamepad players interact with quest-starting items. It also includes fixes that can't be tested in game. Blizzard says the next full weekly update is due September 24.

News

Wowhead map tool now plots boat and zeppelin routes

Wowhead's Forever world map now draws every boat and zeppelin route, which helps when planning a trip to a dungeon on the other side of the world. The routes include the brand-new ship linking Gadgetzan in Tanaris to the new zone, the Riverglades.

News

Goblin cartel factions sell cosmetic helms at Revered

Beta testers found one cosmetic head piece at Revered with each Steamwheedle faction: a headband from Ratchet, an eyepatch from Booty Bay, a Wastewander cowl from Gadgetzan, a fedora from Everlook, and a monocle from Powderfuse, a new cartel branch. All five are appearances for the transmog system.

News

A scroll-crafted sword hints at a melee Mage build

A YouTuber used the Mage's new Comprehension skill to decipher scrolls and found one that turns the Blade of Silverlaine from Shadowfang Keep into the Coldflame Saber. The sword deals extra melee damage to frozen targets, which could combine with Fingers of Frost, Shatter or Windfury Totem into a battle-mage style. It may also just be a fun leveling weapon.

Lore

Skyborne preview: Zephras Isle, two factions, own druid forms

The Skyborne are descended from Highborne exiles who bonded with wind spirits in Skywall. They start on Zephras Isle (levels 1-12) and choose a faction at creation: Horde Windshapers can be Shamans and Alliance High Order can be Mages, and both can be Druid, Hunter, Rogue or Warrior. They get race-specific druid forms, a large set of customization options and their own dance.

Lore

New race/class combos and reworked racials revealed

Blizzard's overview adds Orc Mages, Troll Warlocks, Undead Paladins, Human Hunters, Gnome Priests and Dwarf Shamans, plus the Skyborne. Several racials are new or replaced. Orcs get Shatter Curse, Forsaken get a small life-drain passive, Tauren get Cultivation and Plainsrunning, and Gnomes get Eureka!. Weapon specializations now raise crit chance.

News

Campfires turn every profession into a group buff

Every profession can craft a campfire item that gives an hour-long buff to anyone who sits there for a minute. Buffs scale with level and don't stack with the matching class buff. Cooking upgrades the Campfire Kit's slots. Waylaid Supply crates return and pay Merchant's Favor for new recipes, including 15+ level 20 rare BoP helms.

News

Bought a new spell rank? Check your action bars

Forever makes you buy spell ranks from trainers, and for mana-based abilities the new rank does not replace the old one on your action bars automatically. Rogues and warriors are updated automatically. The spellbook hides lower ranks by default; a toggle at its top right shows them all.

News

Deadmines axe lets anyone mine up to Iron

Rockslicer, the two-handed axe from the Deadmines, now carries 30 charges that let its wielder gather Copper, Tin, Silver and Iron veins without the Mining skill, which normally needs 125 points for Iron. Once the charges run out, the axe stays a normal weapon.

News

Cozy Sleeping Bag quest chain returns from Season of Discovery

The Cozy Sleeping Bag chain is in the Forever beta for level 14 and up, starting at burned-out remains in Westfall or south of Camp Taurajo. The bag, usable hourly, builds an experience buff of 1% per minute up to 3%. The chain also rewards Student Fodder and a 12-slot bag.

Lore

First cosmetic-only item spotted on a rep vendor

A beta tester found the Stolen Wastewander Cowl, an appearance-only item sold at Revered by the Gadgetzan reputation vendor. It ties into Forever's opt-in transmog system, which players can switch off to see real gear. It is unclear whether more such items exist or whether this one is a mistake.

News

How two-part character names work across a region

Names are made of two parts, and only the full combination has to be unique within a region, since there are no realms. Characters can share a first or a second name, but not both. You can hide your secondary name in the world through the nameplate options, though it still shows in chat. The name filter checks both parts together, so a banned word can't be split across them.

News

No shared mob tagging; Recent Allies is the answer

Developer Josh Greenfield confirmed Forever will not have shared mob tagging, calling some of that friction important to the game's social goals. Instead, the Recent Allies feature marks players you have grouped with before, so you can recognize and invite them again when you meet in other zones.

News

Rulesets replace realms: Normal, PvP, RP, Hardcore later

Instead of picking a realm, you pick a ruleset: Normal, PvP or Roleplaying, with Hardcore coming after launch. You can't group across rulesets, and changing ruleset means making a new character. Collections and Legacy Points are account-wide, but Hardcore only passes its progress outward. On PvP you can only create characters for one faction, and there is a preferred-language setting.

Beta

Black Market Auction House spotted in Powderfuse Port

Beta players found a Black Market Auction House run by Madam Swyndle in Powderfuse Port, in the new Riverglades zone. Listings seen so far include companion pets and TCG items from 100g, Tier 0 pieces from 400g, and rare mounts such as Deathcharger's Reins from 3,000g. The system appears designed to take gold out of the economy.

News

Graphics tweaks that sharpen Forever's new visuals

Forever adds new fog, lighting and water effects. For a cleaner image that can also save a few frames, Icy Veins suggests lowering Render Scale slightly to 98%, and trying about 60% Contrast and 40% Brightness to bring out the fog. The best values depend on your monitor and what you prefer.

Add-ons

Which add-ons work in the beta

Early community tests: Questie is available, Deadly Boss Mods is being ported, and WeakAuras will not return in its old form under the new rules.

Beta

Two-part names are sending beta mail astray

Because Forever has no realms and characters carry first and last names, mail appears to be routed by first name alone. Testers report letters and auction house deliveries landing on the wrong alt, sometimes one they had not logged into. Until a fix lands, the safe advice is to avoid relying on mail.

Add-ons

Character panel now explains every stat in plain terms

Hovering over a stat in Forever's character panel now gives a detailed explanation of what it does, including the hit chance needed against enemies of different levels. Hit and crit are now single stats covering melee, ranged and spells. Tanks also get explanations of the crit and crushing blow immunity thresholds.

News

Forgotten dungeon loot now arrives by mail

Loot left on a corpse inside an instance is now mailed to the player by the Steamwheedle Lost and Found, run by the goblin Rix Xizzix from Season of Discovery. That covers cases where bags were full or a drop was simply missed before the corpse vanished.

News

Beta files reveal a long list of new mounts

Datamining the beta turned up dozens of mounts new to the Vanilla-style game: devilsaurs, moose, warden sabers, kodos, cranes, several Galestriders, skeletal horses, a Venomhide Ravasaur and a Spectral Bear. Many are encrypted, so only names are known for now, not models or sources.

Beta

Blizzard deploys routing fixes for EU beta lag

After EU testers suffered heavy latency and disconnects in the first days of the beta, Blizzard says it has rolled out routing changes for the region. Some remaining lag may come from ISPs or local firewall software beyond Blizzard's control, and the team says it will keep monitoring.

News

Default bank doubles to 48 slots

Forever's starting bank now holds 48 slots, twice the old amount, and offers eight bank bag slots instead of six. The extra room is meant for the situational gear sets horizontal progression encourages. Blizzard told MMORPG it may enlarge the bank again once players actually need it.

News

Auto Shot and wands barely need you to stand still

The hidden cast time on hunter Auto Shot and on wands is much shorter in Forever. You still have to stop moving, but only for a moment, which makes kiting far easier and could shake up PvP. A Reddit user posted side-by-side comparison videos against Classic Era.

Beta

Offensive names can cost you beta access

Blizzard confirmed on its forums that characters whose names break naming rules can lose Forever beta access, and affected players get an email naming the character. Forever's new first-plus-last-name system opened room for offensive combinations. Players who believe a mistake was made can appeal.

Beta

Testers: "overtuned and too fast"

Beta feedback threads are debating the leveling pace. Some testers find it too fast, and some report that experience has moved from dungeon mobs to quests. Expect tuning before launch.

Lore

Forever soundtrack playlist tops 100 tracks

Wowhead collected the beta client's music into a playlist of more than 100 tracks lasting close to eight hours. Alongside familiar Azeroth themes there is new music, including a Skyborne theme. Composers include Jason Hayes, David Arkenstone, Russell Brower and Glenn Stafford.

News

Wowhead launches an interactive Forever world map

Wowhead released a zoomable map of Forever's Azeroth, including new locations, for players still waiting on beta access. Layers for zone names, dungeons, class trainers, rares and more can be toggled on or off. The address updates as you pan, so any spot can be shared as a link.

News

Game Informer: level 60 forever, one faction on PvP

Two leads told Game Informer that Forever stays at level 60, set between Warcraft III and The Burning Crusade, with Hyjal and Gilneas planned. PvP rulesets lock you to one faction; other rulesets do not. Add-ons are supported but should not be too powerful. A new Alliance dungeon, Hall of Thanes, covers levels 13 to 18.

Beta

Tom Ellis explains the rocky beta launch

Senior producer Tom Ellis explained on X that the beta ran on a small test stack. Login disconnects came from a Battle.net metering safeguard, slow looting from database statistics needing refreshes, and restarts from empty maps not shutting down and eating memory. Each issue was fixed and extra capacity added.

News

Warning now gives five minutes before a layer change

Forever warns players before forcing them onto another layer, giving five minutes to find a safe spot. You can trigger the move early with a Refresh Now button or hide the prompt and reopen it from an arrow near chat. Blizzard built it with Hardcore players in mind.

Beta

Controller support confirmed, and mount training costs

An interview confirmed official controller support and gave details on what mount training will cost.

News

No attunements for launch raids, says Blizzard

Developers told But Why Tho? that Forever's launch raids require no attunement; they would not discuss later raids. Raids come in fixed 10, 20 and 40-player sizes without scaling, so they can be outgeared. Class changes are more restrained than in Season of Discovery.

Beta

The beta is live

The beta opened on 17 September with a level cap of 20, which rises to 30 over its run. The feed will track each cap raise.

News

IGN Nordic: gear with zone and creature bonuses

Blizzard told IGN Nordic that horizontal progression means gear bonuses that only apply in certain biomes, like speed in a desert, or extra damage against a creature type such as dragons. Power from later raids will rise carefully so older items stay useful. Servers also try to reunite you with players you met earlier.

News

Starter zones hand out free 6-slot bags

A new Dun Morogh quest around level 3 or 4, Grund and Gozwin, rewards a soulbound 6-slot bag, and Carry Your Weight is another known example. Similar quests likely exist in every starting zone. New bags now slot themselves automatically when a bag slot is free.

News

Barbershops confirmed for Forever

Forever includes barbershops, confirmed in Stormwind, where you can change body type, hair and other options, or randomise everything. The choices appear to match character creation, and high-definition models can be toggled while you browse. Whether a fee applies is not yet known.

Beta

Blizzard sorts final issues before beta opens

Shortly before the beta went live, Blizzard posted on its forums that it was fixing a few final issues and hoped to open the servers soon, thanking the many players waiting in the login queue for their patience.

News

Heroic Pack owners can reserve two-part names from October 27

Forever characters get a first and a secondary name. Buyers of the Skyborne Heroic Pack can reserve names early, first come first served, from October 27 to November 3, ahead of the November 4 launch. Secondary names can be hidden for your own character and for others.

News

Deep-dive recap: camping, Legacy, transmog, realmless

Blizzard's panel covered the systems in depth: shared campfires, account-wide Legacy challenges that earn points for every character, optional transmog, and play without fixed realms.

Add-ons

Forever uses the modern add-on restrictions

Forever runs on the modern client, so add-ons follow the same rules as the current expansion. Some combat information is no longer available to add-ons, and Blizzard now ships its own damage meter, cooldown manager and swing timer. Add-ons written for Classic Era need a port before they load.

CompanionThe companion does not depend on combat add-on data. It reads your own screen and the game's chat log, and our bridge add-on is built for the Forever client.
News

More than 600 new recipes, and blueprints from bosses

Professions get a large expansion: advanced Blueprint recipes drop from specific dungeon bosses, and crafted food can give a small experience bonus as well as stats. Profession objects plug into campsites. A Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel raises Attack Power, and a Tailor's Faction Banner raises Spirit.

News

A graphics upgrade for the old world

The original zones get a modern rendering pass while keeping their layouts. Wowhead's write-up has the before-and-after comparisons.
