AION 2 Early Access: What the Founder's Pack Actually Buys You

AION 2 goes free-to-play worldwide on October 5, 2026. Five days before that, on September 30, anyone who buys a Founder's Pack gets in early. If you're trying to decide whether that head start is worth paying for, here's exactly what's in each tier, what you get without spending anything, and what's still worth doing before launch day.

What AION 2 actually is

AION 2 is NCSOFT's free-to-play MMORPG relaunch of the AION series, not just an expansion of the 2009 original. It's already live in Korea and Taiwan, where it launched on PC and mobile on November 19, 2025 — but progress from that regional version doesn't carry over to the global service. October 5 is the game's first release on Steam and PURPLE for North America, South America, Europe and Asia.

Early access is a head start, not a beta

The October 5 date was confirmed at gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25, 2026, moving off an earlier, vaguer "September 2026" target. Early access itself runs September 30 through October 4 — a five-day window reserved for Founder's Pack buyers, with the full free-to-play launch following at 13:00 UTC on October 5, per AION2 Hub's release date guide.

The game is PC-only at launch, playable through Steam or NCSOFT's PURPLE launcher, across North America, South America, Europe and Asia (a separate Chinese version is run independently by Shengqu Games). The client ships in ten languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese. Console versions are in development with no platform or date attached yet.

The three Founder's Pack tiers

According to Hardcore Gamer's breakdown of the packs, the three tiers stack on top of each other:

One detail worth noting: none of the three tiers include premium currency or subscription time, which is unusual for the genre. You're paying for a head start, a title, and progressively more cosmetics — not a wallet top-up or a stat advantage. Whichever tier you buy, or skip, a player who waits for the free October 5 launch starts on equal footing in every way that actually affects gameplay.

What you get for free

You don't need a pack to play AION 2 at all. From October 5 the game is free-to-play on Steam and PURPLE, full stop.

There's also a genuinely free reward sitting on the table right now: signing up for the newsletter at aion2.plaync.com gets you a guaranteed Pagati companion pet plus your choice of one more — Konutin Worker, Papis, Black Smoke Murute, or Silver Blade Rotan — redeemable at launch, per AION2 Hub's pre-registration guide. No purchase required, and as of late August there wasn't a separate formal pre-registration portal beyond that newsletter and wishlisting on Steam.

If you tested the game already, that was the free Launch Scale Test on September 17–18, open to anyone who signed up on Steam with no invite code and no purchase — pre-download opened September 16 for that build specifically.

Is it actually worth paying for?

That depends on what a head start is worth to you. Five days matters if you care about being in the first wave on a fresh server — early guild names, early map control, being ahead of the population curve before the server settles. If none of that matters to you, waiting until October 5 costs you nothing but time: the free client is the same game, minus a title and, depending on the tier you'd have bought, some armor and weapon skins.

There's also a more practical angle than bragging rights: five extra days let you learn your class, work through the early quest chain, and get comfortable with the UI before the servers fill up with everyone else's day-one traffic. That's worth something even if you don't care about server firsts.

Worth remembering before you buy: it's one pack per account, and it's only playable on whichever platform you bought it on. Pick Steam or PURPLE deliberately — you can't switch later on the same purchase.

Watching your own launch

If you'd rather spend the early access window playing than alt-tabbing to check quest text or patch notes, that's the gap AION Companion is built for — a Windows app, made independently of NCSOFT, that reads a few small strips of your screen (health, target, zone, quest tracker, the in-game message feed) and speaks in-character about what's happening, without reading memory, injecting code, or touching input. AION 2's launch week is going to move fast regardless of which pack, or no pack, you pick. The short version: pay for early access if the five-day head start on a new server is worth $25 to $100 to you personally, skip it if it isn't — either way, October 5 gets you the whole game.
