How to level up fast in Fortnite without AFK maps

There is no secret button for Battle Pass levels, and the maps that promise one are the worst option you have. What Epic does document is a set of ordinary XP sources that stack up nicely if you use them in the right order. Here is how we would approach it this season.

1. Quests first, every time

Epic's own support page calls Daily, Weekly and Seasonal Quests the fastest way to earn XP. Dailies reset every day, and a new batch of Weeklies arrives every week. Kickstart Quests at the start of each season also pay well for simple tasks. Event questlines count too: the ninth-birthday quests, live until October 1, unlock a Back Bling after three completions, a Pickaxe after six and a second Back Bling after nine, and pay XP on top.

2. Play what you enjoy, because it all counts

XP now comes from any Fortnite experience, and it advances every pass you own at the same time: the Battle Pass, OG Pass, Music Pass and LEGO Pass. Ordinary match play earns XP over time, with more for surviving longer, eliminations and in-match objectives. Epic also lists the Victory Crown as a bonus: carry one into a match and every action in it earns extra XP.

3. Use this season's boosts

• The More XP Override. One of the launch Match Overrides grants extra XP from eliminations, looting and surviving the Storm. If you see it on a console, claim it.
• Lobby Hacks. Epic's notes say codes entered in the lobby's Admin Panel can grant XP and Sprite Dust, and the season's schedule adds a new Lobby Hack on Mondays. Not every code gives XP, so read what a code does before you rely on it.
• Supercharged XP and Double XP. Supercharged XP switches on automatically after a day or more away, and Epic runs Double XP events at points in the season.

4. Creative islands: useful, but capped

Player-made islands can award XP, but Epic's support page says eligible Creative maps only pay out up to a daily cap. Islands earn XP through Accolades that creators wire to real actions in their game, and Epic calibrates each island after it goes live. Epic's developer documentation adds that XP has diminishing returns: once you pass a threshold across all Creative games, or repeat the same actions or the same game over and over, each accolade is worth less. In practice, a few sessions on different well-made islands help, and grinding a single map all day does not.

Why we skip AFK and "free XP" maps

• Epic's developer rules ban islands that promote cheats, exploits or glitches, and forbid words like "AFK" or "XP" in an island's name, description or thumbnail. Epic has warned creators of escalating penalties that include island removal and account suspension.
• Epic can switch off XP on any island whose Accolade setup breaks its guidelines, so a map that paid out yesterday may pay nothing today.
• For players, Epic's community rules say not to exploit bugs and glitches, and list penalties that go as far as a permanent account ban.

In short, you risk your account for XP that is likely to be throttled anyway.

A note on map codes

Our XP map list only includes islands that give XP through normal play, and every code shows where we found it and the date we last checked it. Island codes change, creators update or pull their maps, and Epic keeps adjusting how much XP islands pay, so treat any list, ours included, as a starting point rather than a guarantee.
