AION 2 in 2026: what changed between the Korean launch and the global one
Ten months of Korean patches, a global build that deliberately lags behind, and the handful of things NC has actually confirmed for October 5.

AION 2 has been live in Korea and Taiwan since November 19, 2025. By the time the global servers open on October 5, 2026, the Korean game will have absorbed roughly forty weekly update notes, two named seasons, a full expansion chapter and a ninth class. The version the West gets is not that game. Here is what changed on each side, and where the two versions part ways.
The Korean year in brief
NC's own newsroom set the tone in January: KRW 100 billion in revenue inside 46 days and more than a million characters on a membership, followed by Season 2 on January 21. That season brought the Dying Dramata's Nest expedition, new raids and ascension trials, class-based rankings for trials and daily dungeons, an Inheritance system for moving upgrades between same-grade items, a new Arcana slot, and the item-level-gated Middle Reshanta layer of the Abyss.
The mid-year patches were about money and friction. On June 17 NC collapsed three paid memberships into one, added an Abyss Rift Zone event that re-matches servers so factions stop fighting the same enemies, and shipped a K-pop collaboration with fromis_9. Two weeks later, on July 1, came the biggest update to date: Chapter 1, Land of Sand and Frost. It raised the level cap from 45 to 50, widened Stigma slots from 20 to 25, grew dungeon parties from four to five and battlegrounds to 10v10, opened Eltnen for Elyos and Morheim for Asmodians, and introduced the Brawler, a gauntlet class that builds rage into a Rampage state.
Late summer was the balance season. August 26 rewrote the Templar and Chanter rotations and roughly halved the party damage buffs those classes and the Gladiator provide. September 2 added Spacetime Rift Domination, a 60-to-200-a-side stronghold siege three evenings a week. September 9 opened the Snowfield of Sorrow sanctuary with a server-wide Hall of Fame and a new Seal equipment slot. September 16 attacked mouse macros by lengthening cancel windows on Templar and Assassin combos, gave every Ranger attack an element, and made the Sorcerer's Fire Mark proc on every fire hit. September 23 rotated the weekly Trial to the Fire Temple and started Chuseok holiday events.
What the global build is
At Gamescom, game director Namjoon Kim and publishing producer Merv Lee Kwai told Wccftech that the global client launches on a modified Season 1: Korea's original launch content with a year of quality-of-life fixes folded in, and later seasons arriving roughly every three months, paced by how fast players progress. Kwai's exact words on the gap were that the West would be "behind Korea by some amount of time, but I don't know exactly how much yet." Massively OP's reading of the same interview was blunter: delayed content, no cross-play, no mobile.
So the practical answer is: no Brawler, no level 50, no Eltnen or Morheim, no Domination sieges at launch. Community sites that track both clients (AION2 Hub, Mein-MMO, Massively OP's own hands-on) all list eight classes and a level-45 cap for the global release. One database, aion2db.gg, lists nine classes as "included in the Global build"; we could not reconcile that with any official statement and treat it as an error until NC says otherwise.
Not just delayed, retuned
The Launch Scale Test on September 17-18 gave players a first look at the global client, and creator Madsin's side-by-side comparison with the live Korean client suggested NC has also changed the numbers. His findings, relayed by AION2 Hub: lower percentage stats on soul-binding, Daevanion nodes, Genus Insight and pets; tighter enhancement caps (+5 on rare gear, +10 on blue, versus +10 and +15 in Korea); a pet level cap of three instead of five; cheaper entry requirements for early conquest dungeons; and a 500,000 Abyss Point cap that grows weekly. NC has published no patch notes on any of this, and the launch client is a separate download from the test client, so every one of these values could move again.
What NC has confirmed in writing is the business side. Membership costs $15 for 30 days and is the only way to use the Market and the Kina-to-Quna Exchange. Direct player-to-player trading is disabled as an anti-bot measure. Members in good standing get a priority login queue. Founder's Pack cosmetics will not be sold separately in the global shop, which is a departure from Korea.
Where sources disagree
- Season labels. NC's newsroom dates Season 2 to January 21, 2026. AION2 Hub's news feed calls the June 17 patch a "Season 2 update", but its own patch-note page for that day carries no season label, and NC's press release for June 17 is titled around Summer Festa and membership changes. We follow the newsroom.
- The size of the gap. "About a year" is the common shorthand, but NC has only said the global build is Season 1 plus fixes, and that Korea's content is held in reserve to be released on a lagging schedule.
- Brawler availability. See above.
We will update this piece when the first global patch notes appear on the EN-US notice board.
